Kochi is the commercial capital and the most cosmopolitan city of Kerala, A Jewish community with roots going back to 1000 AD and a 16th century synagogue are testimony to the land's diversity.
Places you can see are Chinese Fishing Nets, Jewish Synagogue, Dutch Palace and St. Francis Church.
Chinese fishing nets, Fort Cochin - These nets, at the entrance of the harbour and along the backwaters with pivots of wood, were introduced by traders from the court of Kublai Khan. Plenty of shops are present at Fort Cochin for purchase of antique pieces.
Jewish Synagogue - The Jewish Synagogue was built over 400 years ago, containing beautiful Belgian glass chandeliers & paved with hand-painted tiles from China.
Dutch Palace, Mattancherry- The Palace, originally built by the Portuguese and presented to the Cochin raja Veera Kerala Varman in 1555, acquired its present name after 1663 when the Dutch carried out some extensive repairs. The Cochin rajas held their coronation ceremonies in the Central Hall of this double- storey quadrangular building.
Shopping at Cochin - Shopping can be enjoyed in downtown Cochin. The popular shopping areas are Broadway, Mahatma Gandhi (M.G) Road, and GCDA shopping complex.
